I've been always interested in the concept of disappearing physically into something non physical, like music or an imaginary world. you could use this like a young girl traveling to an imaginary world when her drunk parent is after her.

This would have to be a collaboration between two people. The idea is for one person to write a love letter and the other person writes a letter in response. It has to be love/romance related, so it can be about breaking up, being in love, being apart, etc. Anything goes as long as "love" is the theme.

A wheelchair is lying on the floor. It seems abandoned. It's rusty, broken and also has some bloodstains on it, old and dryed up stainds.
A star shines over a bombed city. The flames after the bombings have seized but the smoke and feeling of despair covers the image. The starlit sky gives nice contrast towards the horrible sight below.
A doll frozen into a block of ice. On eye on the doll is missing.
A teddybear without arms is sitting alone and abandoned in a dark attic. A tear is running on it's cheek. Old friendship never dies...

Lipograms. Write a poem and leave out a letter for effect. It can add to the theme of the poem and add extra dimensions. Or leave out a letter for most of the poem until the end when it comes as a surprise to those who notice.
Take a photo of some common object or draw something in a way that it looks like something else.
Describe the texture of a sound, in words or pictures. For instance, I was at a concert last night and the voice of one person was smooth and creamy.

Create a dramatic self-portrait using lighting effects to reveal a different side of you. A great way to do this is take any kind of paper (manila or construction paper is best) and cover it completely with charcoal. Then use a gum eraser (the putty kind) and erase the charcoal in parts to leave lights. Its a great thing to play around with, especially with lighting.

Writers, think about the one person you truly despise or hate with every fiber of your being... Then force yourself to pick one POSITIVE aspect about them and describe it with utmost detail.

Photograph someone playing with finger puppets all by his/herself.
Write a story about a historical event, but if one certain thing was changed. Like what would the battle of Gedesberg be like if other contries got inolved in the civil war? How would it go?
Write about a leaf. What about a leaf? Anything that comes to mind when you see a leaf. It doesn't even have to be about the leaf, just look at any leaf, and write about it. You might just write something good.
Draw a messenger, worn, weary, bloody, and with tattered clothes, in a lavish royal court to deliver a letter to a well dressed king, and his well dressed court. The king is looking at the messenger with a look of indifference and boredom, as if he doesn't care about the fact that he's obviously gone through alot to bring him that letter. Most of the court isn't even looking at him, just going about whatever they were doing.
Get a picture of a clean brick wall. Cover it in graffiti
Write about a Boy Scout. He has been a good boy, active in his troop, polite, does lots of good deeds, has tons of merit badges, gets good grades in school, and is all in all, a nearly perfect Boy Scout. But he hides a dark secret.
Make your own hoax, and stage it. Then take a picture of it so that it looks like it was real!
leodadominico
Forcing self into destruction. I'll leave that idea to stur up some of your own.

I'm not known for my rhyming, but i love the use of internal rhyming. for example,
the hands around your head were freezer - burning
your flawless convictions - perfections.
so my idea is that if you are trying to rhyme, maybe try focusing on the main idea and adding in some internal rhymes to make your poetry flow. and if you're still stuck, as my writing process teacher would say, go back to the five senses, they'll never fail you.

Think of one of those old Roman/Greek temples with the huge domes in the middle. Now pretend like the temple was underneath the ocean, so the dome was made of glass and the water could be seen from underneath. Now imagine there was a groove the exact circumference of the dome down on the floor. Everything white marble with the light reflecting off every surface.
Blind contour drawing is when you take your pen or pencil and, without looking down at your page and without lifting your drawing utensil, draw what you see in front of you. It's very good detail practice when you have the time. If you're bored in a restaurant, try drawing salt and pepper shakers, the plates and cups arranged on the table, or the people with you. Remember not to look at your page! You end up with very interesting works, and it helps to improve your eye for detail because you are drawing exactly what you see, without worry of whether or not the drawing is accurate.

There are five kids. Each of them have dreams about a land where mythical animals live, and exsist. They Five become obbsessed with finding it, so the go on a journey as individuals. Eventually they meet each other along the way.

Picture something underwater that you would not normally find underwater (ie. a dog, a computer, a building). But picture it as if it were functioning normally. If it is a living thing, how does it live and survive? If it is something used by humans, how is it used underwater? Is it still used by humans, or by starfish and seahorses? How has the object affected its surrroundings? How is it blending into it's environment? Keep asking yourself these kinds of questions, and come up with something abstract.
sardonic
Sketch the scenery of a place you find breath taking or interesting. Color it the tone of your emotions during the time of the sketch.
Have you ever had a camera full of pictures with hands infront of people's faces so you cant get them? Take all of those pictures and make a type of collage... write something about all the photos or something about the whole piece in general.
Find a unique photo in the stock photo section of Deviant Art and give it a 'dark' touch. Manipulate it to get your desired effects and make sure to give credit to the person who took the actual photo.

I know this may seem a bit cliched, but perhaps you could divide a simple enough drawing of a central figure (with a background) into two halves to correspond to two opposites.
This would mean that, while...say if for your two opposites you were using the light and the darkness, one side would have a hellish background and half a heavenly figure, and the other half would have a heavenly background as opposed to a hellish half-character.
You could try this with anything, really. They don't necessarily have to be a good/evil opposite - nature/urbanisation, day/night, religion/atheism, anything.

If you are stuck on ideas for writing a poem, why not try this? Ask each of your closest friends and family members for their three favorite words. Then compose a poem using all of these words. That way you have material to work with for your poem and it has a piece of each of the people closest to you in it.
